PURPOSE:To improve the utilization rate and writing speed of a magnetic tape on such a system that the magnetic tape is accessed directly by providing a temporary storage means, and rewriting the remaining data in a recording means in accordance with the position and recording area of a stripe if an error occurs to the stripe. CONSTITUTION:Data in a buffer memory 11 is written in, for example, an area 24. A control part 13 allows the holding of the data, writes data of a buffer memory 12 in an area 25, and then erases the data in the memory 11 to write next data therein, holding the data in the memory 12. If an error which destroys an adjacent stripe while new data of the memory 11 is written in an area 26, the control circuit 13 recognizes that the area of the memory 12 and the area of the memory 11 when the error occurs are in the same physical block 22 from the counted values of counters 20 and 21 and the magnetic tape 15 is rewound to the head of an area 25 to rewrite the held data in the memory 12 through a maltiplexer MPX14 and an interface IF15 from the beginning of the area 25. When one writing area extends to another physical block, the rewriting is performed similarly. |
