PURPOSE:To widen the non-resonant frequency range and perform high frequency lighting by selecting the mercury seal quantity of a luminous tube, the seal pressure of starting rare gas at a normal temperature, and the relation between the distance between electrodes and the inner diameter at specific values. CONSTITUTION:A luminous tube arranged in the outer tube 2 of a metal halide lamp 20 and sealed with metal halogenide is designed so that its mercury seal quantity is 1-2.6mg.cm<-3> per unit inner volume of the luminous tube, the seal pressure of starting rare gas at a normal temperature is 20-50Torr, and L/D>= 2.5 is satisfied, where L is a distance between electrodes and D is an inner diameter. Therefore, the stable frequency range which is the non-resonant frequency range can be widened to + or -6kHz, and the electrical characteristics during high frequency lighting can be improved. |
