A retaining frame for eyeglasses renders its user independent from the usual artificial, preferably electric ambient lighting in cases in which he requires artificial lighting in order to be able to see, doing so by means of bringing together the following two features: a) The retaining frame is set up in a manner known per se in order to accommodate two eyeglass lenses in two mounts, arranged next to one another at the interpupillary distance, so that they can be extracted but are secured against falling out by retaining means; b) assembled together with the retaining frame is an electric illuminating device whose supply batteries are installed in the retaining frame, as is a microswitch. The illuminating device expediently consists of a rod-shaped illuminating element accommodated in a reflector, and in this arrangement the reflector is rotatably pivoted at the free ends of rods guided displaceably on both sides of the retaining frame.

|
