In the case of an electromagnetic relay, in order to keep the armature (3), which can pivot about a blade edge (9), firmly in its quiescent position in the absence of excitation, by means of a force which is no longer effective when the relay is excited, and hence to keep the vibration or shaking sensitivity so small that the armature (3) is held in its quiescent position even in the event of impact forces, irrespective of their direction, a magnetic shunt path, which consists of a part (6) of the armature (3), a magnetically conductive part (4) and a permanent magnet (5), is provided in addition to the main magnetic flux which is formed by the yoke (1) and the armature (3) (part 7). In the quiescent position of the armature (3), the components (4, 5, 6) forming the shunt path are connected to one another in the direction of the magnetic shunt path. A separating point (8) is provided in the magnetic shunt path in order to permit armature movement. <IMAGE>
