Brake arrangement for conveying machines, reels and winches, in which at least two brake shoes facing one another and pivotably arranged on guide links about horizontal brake shafts are placed against the drum to be braked. The brake arrangement can be controlled as a travel and quick-action safety brake which is provided with brake-lever connecting rods attached to the brake shaft of the brake shoes on one side of the drum. One or more brake-power generators act on the brake-lever connecting rods. Brake-pressure elements, enclosing the brake-lever connecting rods in an annular manner, of the brake-power generators are guided on the brake-lever connecting rods. The brake-pressure elements are attached to the other brake shaft of the brake shoes on the other side of the drum. In the brake arrangement, the brake-power generators are piston-cylinder units whose cylinders bear on the push side against the brake-pressure elements acting on one brake shaft, while their pistons are attached on the pull side to the brake-lever connecting rods acting on the other brake shaft via the brake-pressure elements.
