What is described is a lubricating device for a running track (10) in a rotating lockstitch gripper (4) of a sewing machine, which consists of a bobbin housing (9), of a gripper body (15) and of an oil ring (16). In the vicinity of the running track (10) is provided at least one preferably cylindrical sealed-off cavity (11) which is connected, on the one hand, by way of a bore (13) to an oil chamber (12) located in the oil ring (16) and, on the other hand, by means of a blind hole (14), arranged inclined in the gripper body (15), to the running track (10) located in the gripper body (15). During the standstill phase of the lockstitch gripper (4), oil previously located in the blind hole (14) flows off into the cavity (11), adhesive forces which occur or a depression (24) in the cavity (11) preventing the flow-off of oil out of the cavity (11). When the sewing machine is restarted, therefore, a particular quantity of oil is available for an immediately commencing lubrication of the running track (10). <IMAGE>
