In the case of a motorcar brake system with a plurality of circuits, preferably a dual circuit motorcar brake system with a footbrake valve for controlling the brake pressure in a front axle brake circuit and in a rear axle brake circuit of a motor vehicle, a pressure transducer is separately provided or incorporated in the footbrake valve, by means of which the pressure in the front axle brake circuit can be controlled as a function of a load-related pressure of the rear axle brake circuit; a retaining valve (15; 71) is provided for the compressed air of the rear axle brake circuit entering at the pressure transducer (9) and controlled as a function of the load. The retaining valve comprises a piston and spring arrangement, by means of which the load-related brake pressure entering into the retaining valve is kept constant despite dynamic axle load displacements. Reductions in the rear axle brake pressure caused by dynamic axle load displacements during braking or by a brake force regulator during downhill running thereby do not cause any corresponding reduction in the front axle brake pressure. Such a reduction in the front axle brake pressure is only brought about, deliberately, when a fall in pressure in the two brake circuits is initiated by way of the footbrake valve. <IMAGE>
