Azetidine derivatives and a process for their production.

An azetidine derivative is provided of the formula,
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="33" wi="51" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group, and R<Sub>a</Sub>, R<Sub>b</Sub>, R<Sub>c</Sub>, R;, R<Sub>b</Sub> and R<Sub>c</Sub>' all represent lower alkyl groups, at least some of which groups may be the same. A process for the production of such derivatives is described. The derivatives are useful as intermediates in the production of β-lactam compounds having antibacterial activities.
