<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a liq. crystal orienting layer of an org. material with sufficiently high hardness, superior impact and heat resistance by rubbing a specified org. material film. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of cyclic polyisoprene represented by the formula is dropped on a doctor roll 7 and coated on the surface of a plastic convex plate 10 attached to a blank drum 9 through a coating roll 8. A glass substrate 1 having a formed electrode pattern is supported on a moving table 11, and while moving the table 11, the cyclic polyisoprene soln. is transfer-printed on the surface of the substrate 1. The rubbing material 13 of a rubbing roll 14 is brought into contact with the surface of the substrate 1, and by moving the table 21 while rotating the roll 14, microgrooves are cut in the resulting cyclic polyisoprene film to obtain a liq. crystal orienting layer. Accidents damaging the orienting layer are reduced in stages after forming the layer, and a liq. crystal display cell with high reliability can be obtd. at a low cost.</p> |
