PURPOSE:To raise the volumetric efficiency of a vane compressor, by reducing leakage of gas from axial seal portions by employing such an arrangement that the volume of a particular confined space is made as small as possible at the time when pressure in a pressure chamber located on the high-pressure side of the axial seal portion is raised to the discharge gas pressure. CONSTITUTION:A vane compressor of this invention is designed such that a vane 3 preceding, in the direction of rotation of a rotor 1, to the vane 3 defining a high- pressure chamber 16 to an axial seal portion where the rotor 1 and a cam ring 2 are located most closely to each other comes to the position of an intake port 14 after the rotor 1 is turned a prescribed angle. Further, at the region corresponding to said prescribed angle of rotation of the rotor 1, the inner surface of the cam ring 2 is shaped in the form of an arcuate surface that is spaced a prescribed distance apart from the outer surface of the rotor 1. With such an arrangement, the volume of a space confined by the vanes 3, the outer surface of the rotor 1, the inner surface of the cam ring 2, the axial seal portion and side plates (not shown) on both sides of the cam ring 2 can be made as small as possible during the while when one vane 3 is moved from the axial seal portion to the starting point of the intake port 14, so that it is enabled to reduce leakage of gas from the sealing portions and to raise the volumetric efficiency of the vane compressor. |
