An improvement with regard to the selective vaporisation for the decarbonisation and demetallisation of heavy crude oil fractions is described, according to which the crude oil fraction is contacted in a riser for a short time with a hot inert solid contact material. The adaptability of the process is based on the fact that the contact material is suspended in steam or in another carrier gas by feeding the heavy crude oil fraction to the riser at points located at different heights.
