A wheel assembly comprises a drive shaft (18) and a spindle (16) which are drivingly splined together, and are axially secured together by a lock but (24). A snap ring (34) is secured in a groove (32) about the outerside circumference of the spindle (16), the snap ring (34) extending radially outwardly to engage an inner race (36) of a bearing (14) for axial securement of the spindle (16) with respect to the bearing. As the bearing is axially secured to a support member (17), the likelihood of loss of the spindle (16) and wheel (28) attached thereto through separation from a fractured axle shaft is minimized. <IMAGE> |
