PURPOSE:To transfer data at a high speed and print in multiple colors with a simple construction, by a method wherein dot pattern data for one line on a color basis are received and stored, and predetermined mixed-color printing is conducted concurrently with the movement of heads. CONSTITUTION:A multicolor printer is provided with the printing heads 40-43 (ink-system wire dots or an ink jet system) respectively for four colors including three primary colors of yellow Y, magenta M and cyan C and black (b). Printing data inputted from the exterior of a computer 1 or the like are stored in line buffers 20-23 as dot pattern data in amounts for one line and on a color basis. The data read from the line buffers 20-23 with predetermined delays while moving a group of the printing heads in a horizontal direction, and simultaneously, the heads 40-43 are driven, thereby enabling to print in the form of dot matrices in multiple colors. |
