PURPOSE:To reduce time required for producing up to a cylinder body with a joint for connecting pipes by sending a planer shell plate having the joint welded for connecting pipes to three stepped rollers to produce a roll body with the joint. CONSTITUTION:A planer shell plate P cut to a predetermined dimension and provided with holes is transferred by a longitudinal transfer conveyer 2 and stopped at a predetermined position so that a joint J is inserted into a hole in the shell plate P and welded thereto. Next, the shell plate P with the joint is again transferred by the conveyer 2 to a lateral transfer conveyer 4. Then, with a roller frame 27 being lifted, the shell plate P passes through stepped rollers 42a-42c of a rolling device 5 such that the projection of the joint J is prevented from interference with the rollers by the stepped portion of the rollers 42a-42c and the end of the shell plate has the diameter made smaller than that of final can to provide a laminated roll body P2. This roll body P2 is transferred by a transferring slant bed 6 to have its diameter expanded to a predetermined one by tapered pipe expanding members 51a, 51b, and welded at the seam by a welder 52 to provide the roll body P3 with the joint having a predetermined can diameter. |
