PURPOSE:To maintain the high performance of cell even when the fuel cell has operated or stopped for long term, by impregnating an electrolyte reservoir and matrix with low concentration electrolyte then condensing said electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:The electrolyte impregnated in a fuel cell 1 is diluted to predetermined concentration then impregnated through electrolyte impregnating holes 14 or 17 of separators 12, 13 in the electrolyte reservoir 22 and the bore of the matrix 4. Thereafter the dried gas is fed to gas partitions 10, 11 under the operating temperature of the fuel cell 1 to evaporate the water in the diluted electrolyte to condense to predetermined concentration, while because of the difference of the electrolyte holding force the electrolyte impregnated in the electrolyte reservoir 22 will move to the matrix 4 to fill the bore of the matrix 4 completely with the electrolyte of predetermined concentration. Under the operating temperature, the electrolyte will be scarcely held in the reservoir 22 to maintain the high performance even for long term operation or stoppage. |
