The tool pairs (501) are fastened to pairs of tool holders (51) which are in turn attached to pairs of shafts (61) parallel to one another so that longitudinal slots or longitudinal grooves can be made in cardboard passed through between the shafts. In particular to improve the positioning accuracy, the pairs of tool holders (51) are mounted in a slidable manner on the pairs of parallel shafts (61). However, the shafts are designed to alternatively retain the tool holders (51) in position. Displacing elements (24) on motion devices (2) for displacing the tools in accordance with the number of tool pairs (501) can be moved at least on one guide element (1) parallel to the shafts (61) and can be brought into engagement with the pairs of tool holders (51). All displacing elements (24) can be simultaneously brought into engagement with and disengaged from the corresponding pairs of tool holders by a feed unit. A numerical positioning control system (4) serves to control the drive motors (2) of the motion devices for displacing the tools. <IMAGE>
