In a method for reforming of a container 1 with a side wall 2 and a base wall 3, the container is made to rotate by means of supporting elements 11, 12, whilst a roller 13 is applied against the container and moved with the axis of the container. The base wall 3 has a central plate 4, an annular wall 5 extending from the periphery of the central plate, an outwardly convex bead 6 with a curved cross-sectional shape, on which bead the container can stand, and a transitional wall 7, extending radially and axially from the convex bead to the side wall 2, the roller being applied against the transitional wall 7 for reforming the latter and for tapering the curvature of the convex bead. This method permits the forming of base wall profiles, which can withstand distension under the effect of the pressure inside the container, so that thinner metal such as tinplate or aluminium alloys can be used. <IMAGE>
