<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for cephalosporin antibiotic substances and agricultural chemicals, by closing the ring of an N- (2-hydroxyethyl)dithiocarbamic ester having a protected hydroxy group in the form of an ether, and eliminating the protecting group. CONSTITUTION:An N-(2-hydroxyethyl)dithiocarbamic ester having a hydroxy group protected in the form of an ether which is a novel compound, e.g. methyl N-(2-triphenylmethoxyethyl)dithiocarbamate, is subjected to the closure of the tetrazole ring with a salt of hydrogen azide in a polar solvent up to about 150 deg.C for 1-10hr to give 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-5-1H-tetrazolethiol having the protected hydroxy group in the form of an ether which is a novel compound. The protecting group is then eliminated. An alkyl, aryl, organosilyl and organostannyl groups, etc. which may be eliminated under mild conditions are preferred for the protecting group.</p> |
