An acoustic support of e.g. glass or corundum is bounded by a cylindrical side face and two focusing end faces in the form of polished spherical caps inclined at different angles to the axis of symmetry. Input and output transducers are fixed to the respective end faces on opposite sides of the axis for min. direct coupling. The bulk acoustic wave from the input transducer strikes the output face at a point remote from the output transducer, and is re-reflected only once at the input face for concn. in the region of the output transducer. Reflection from this region is along the side face into an absorbent layer of e.g. varnish so that the output signal is delayed with only one echo.
