EXTRACTING SYSTEM OF CHARACTER REGION

PURPOSE:To realize a high-speed processing, by extracting a standard character region out of a drawing containing characters and patterns by sorting the chararcter regions just by a 1-dimensional scanning and based on the lateral and longitudinal conditions and then performing a defining window scan. CONSTITUTION:The picture information obtained by a 1-dimensional scanning and stored in a picture memory 11 is read out to a buffer 12 under the control of a control part 16 and fed to a feature extracting part (I) 13. The part 13 obtains the mean length of the segment between changing points and carrying out sorting based on the conditions to the primary horizontal direction and the secondary vertical direction to estimate a standard character region. The data on the standard character region is fed to a parameter arithmetic part 14 to calculate the window parameter. This window parameter is stored in a parameter table 15 and then sent to a feature extracting part (II) 18. Then a defining scanning of the window is carried out to extract th character regions.
