A process for purifying human chorionic gonadotropin.

Crude human chorionic gonadotropin ("HCG") is purified by extracting with a neutral or weakly basic aqueous solution containing a lower aliphatic alcohol and a soluble salt, adding a lower aliphatic alcohol to the extracted solution to form precipitate collection and the precipitates containing high purity HCG. The precipitate can be further purified by dissolving in a buffer solution, contacting the solution with a weak anion exchanger and eluting the exchanger with a solution comprising the said buffer and a salt.
