PURPOSE:To prevent cracks, by shaping the surface of an embedded metal at the side of a bearing as an arc similar to that of an inner race, which is fitted correspondingly to the journal on the bearing, to eliminate the clearance between the embedded metal and the inner race. CONSTITUTION:A hexahedral embedded metal 4, which is processed to a height slightly larger than the depth of the keyway 3 of the journal 2 of a backup roll 1 or the like and to other dimensions for fitting in the keyway 3, is inserted into the keyway and secured by bolts. The whole roll 1 is set on a grinder to grind the part of the embedded metal 4 projecting from the journal 2 to shape the metal 4 as an arc 10 similar to that of an inner race 5, which is mounted correspondingly to the j ournal 2. According to this constitution, no clearance is made between the embedded metal 4 and the inner race 5. As a result, shearing stress which would concentrate on the corners of the keyway 3 is reduced to prevent cracks. |
