As a result of a specific closure of the outlet opening of worm presses for the separation of liquids from liquid/solid mixtures by means of a terminal part fixed to the tip of the worm and co-operating with an axially displaceable terminal sleeve sealingly enclosing the pressing cylinder, the build-up of controllable backpressure in the worm press is achieved. The annular gap formed between terminal part and axially displaceable terminal sleeve can thus be continuously adjusted in its width using the simplest means.
