ROTARY HEAD TYPE MAGNETIC VIDEO RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To discriminate stably a recording mode, by recording a pilot signal for discrimination of the recording mode. CONSTITUTION:The video signal supplied from an input terminal 1 is separated into a luminance signal and a modulated color signal by an LPF2 and a BPF4. The luminance signal undergoes the FM modulation through an FM modulating circuit 3; while the modulated color signal is added through an adder 6 after conversion of the low band through a circuit 5. On the other hand, the signal of a pilot signal generator 8 is gated by a gate circuit 9 for a certain period of a vertical blanking time and then added with the modulated video signal by an adder 7. The output of the adder 7 is recorded on a magnetic tape by rotary heads 13 and 13' and via a recording amplifier 10, a record/reproduction changeover switch 11 and a slip ring 12. In a reproduction mode the presence or absence of the pilot signal is detected by a detecting circuit 27, and the recording mode is automatically detected.
