The invention relates to a method for the automatic studding of a tyre 1, according to which the tyre 1 is clamped in a rotatable holding member 2, after which the tyre 1 is filled with air and rotated. During the rotation, the coordinates for the stud holes made beforehand in the tyre are registered and stored in a computer system. This system then positions a studding unit 4 up against the tyre 1 and initiates application of a stud once the stud pistol 17 of the unit 4 is in a position directly in front of a stud hole. An automatic studding machine according to the invention comprises a rotatable holding member 2 for the tyre 1 and at least one studding unit 4. A computerized image processing system is set up to register and store the coordinates of the stud holes made in the tyre 1 and to position the stud pistol 17 of the studding unit 4 in a position directly in front of each hole and initiate application of a stud therein. <IMAGE> |
