The invention provides a compound of formula (II): R<1>-CO-O-CHR<2>-O-CO-R<3> (II) or a salt or ester therof: wherein R<1> is a substituted or unsubstituted 7-oxo-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-ene ring system, R<2> is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon moiety, and R<3> is the residue of a renal dipeptidase inhibitor R<3>CO2H. A process for the preparation of compounds of formula II and pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds are also described. |
