Novel 3,3a,8a,9-tetrahydronaphtho[2,3,4-b,c]pyran compounds acting on the central nervous system, of the general formula <IMAGE> are described, in which X denotes OH or O-CO-R<3>, Y denotes H or X and Y together denote =O or NOH, R<1> denotes H or C1-6-alkyl, R<2> denotes H, halogen in the 4-, 5- or 6-position, OH in the 4-, 5- or 6-position, OCH3 in the 4-, 5- or 6-position, CF3 in the 4-, 5- or 6-position or C1-6-alkyl in the 4-, 5- or 6-position, and R<3> denotes C1-6-alkyl or phenyl. These compounds are prepared by condensation of a mixture of the cis- and trans-isomers of the corresponding 4-phenyltetrahydropyrancarboxylic acid and hydrogenation and possible subsequent esterification or reaction with hydroxylamine of the tetrahydronaphthopyran-8-one obtained.
