CLAMPING AND LIFTING PLATES FOR A PROTECTIVE LINING

This invention relates to a clamping assembly used for securing of protective linings to the walls of machinery used in the crushing and conveying of abrasive material. The clamping assembly comprises a clamping member made of a generally resiliently deformable material such as a nonabrasive rubber type material with a metal attachment member ambedded in the clamping member. This attachment member includes a generally "C" shaped in cross section channel with two inwardly directed flanges either side of the open port_ ion of the generally "C" shaped section. The channel is embedded in the clamping member in a manner such that the open portion of the "C" shaped section is exposed along one side of the clamping member whereby a plurality of retaining bolts, each having an associated rail piece, may be inserted in the "C" shaped channel and slidably positioned within the length thereof. Each rail piece extends either side of the associated bolt and engages the inwardly directed flanges of the "C" shaped channel. When this clamping assembly is secured to the wall of a machine, the rail pieces distribute the bearing force exerted by the bolts to the flanges of the "C" shaped channel. This structure overcomes problems with prior art devices where the position of the retaining bolts was critical and did not have the flexibility of the present system. Furthermore, this structure alleviates problems due to the tearing of the bolt from the channel or tearing of the channel from the clamping member. This is accomplished by the manner in which the bolt and associated rail pieces are supported within the "C" shaped channel and the anchoring of the channel within the clamping member.
