PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a lavender perfmuery, economically, in one step, by the rearrangement of diprenyl ether or 1,1-dimethyl- 2-propenyl prenyl ether in the presence of a specific aluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:The diprenyl ether of formulaI or 1,1-dimethyl-2-propenyl prenyl ether of formula II is subjected to the rearragnement reaction effectively in the presence of an aluminum compound of formula III[R is hydrocarbon group; X and Y are univalent acid residue; Z is SO4, O or S; l is 0, 1 or 2; m and n are integer of 0-3; pr is 1 or 2; q is 0 (provided that p=1 and l+m+n=3) or 1 (provided that p=2 and l+m+n=2) , e.g. the compound of formula IV (Tf is SO2CF3) to obtain lavandulol of formula V. The compounds of formulaIand formula II can be obtained not only from a prenyl halide, etc. economically but also as a by-product of a terpenoid synthesis industry. |
