<p>A box (7) in an oval shaped body contains an electric motor (3) powered from batteries (5,6) to drive toothed wheels (4) outside the box. Protruding from the box are pickup brushes (8) which receive information from control rails located around the vehicle in the lengthways direction. On either side of the rails are located tracks in which the wheels engage and which are maintained in position by retaining pulleys (6). A stabiliser wheel (14) guides the box assembly. The box displaces on the tracks within the body which is of very low weight compared with the box. This movement changes the centre of gravity to cause the body to move by rolling action. A mercury switch (13) reverses the motor direction.</p> |
