Two metal main profile strips are held at a defined distance from each other by connecting parts (3) interacting in pairs. The connecting parts are made of a material which can withstand the conventional finishing of metal profile strips without significant impairment of its mechanical properties, for example of a polyester resin containing polyethylene terephthalate reinforced with inorganic fibres. The main profile strips are connected together using the connecting parts (3) before the finishing operations. <IMAGE>
