PURPOSE:To obtain a vertical and transversal printing device for a transversal operation exclusive Japanese typewriter by a method in which both transversal and vertical printing operations can be attained by only a type board having large numbers of types with a nick. CONSTITUTION:In vertical printing operation, desired types in a typeboard 2 are inserted into the insertion hole 9 of a rotary part 14 by a pushing lever 10 and held in the rotary part 14 by a typebar piece 8 and the projection 18 of a type holder 17, and soon a connecting lever 36 is actuacted to turn a fan- shaped gear 31, and the rotary part 14, the type 3, and the holder piece 17 are turned 90 deg. together through the gear 25. Since the holder piece 17 turns while being coupled with the second state of an oblong form, the rotary part 14 and the pawl level 26, under a condition that the type 3 is held, give a rocking movement to strike the type bar 7 toward the platen, and on the way, the pawl 27 of the pawl level 26 is coupled with the ratchet 25 of the rotary part 14 and printing is made under a condition that the rotary part 14 and the type 3 are temporarily fixed at the position at which they are turned. |
