PURPOSE:To enable detection of rare earth element separated by a liquid chromatograph, by a method wherein a product of reaction, produced by reaction between rare earth element and an organic compound causing a special reaction coloration thereto, is measured optically. CONSTITUTION:An organic compound, causing a special reaction coloration to rare earth element, is continuously added in a constant ratio to a flow of an elute containing rare earth element separating by a liquid chromatograph, and a product of reaction is produced by reacting it to rare earth element. A solution containing the product of reaction is continuously introduced to a detector employing a light absorbing photometer, and the concentration of the product of reaction is found by an optical measuring method for measuring a light absorption of the product of reaction to perform a quantitative determination of the rare earth element contained in a sample. |
