The subject of the invention is a sliding-head automatic machine with a gear-cutting function, on the frame (1) of which a headstock (2) is displaceably arranged and to the frame (1) of which a steady (3) and two slide-rest stands (6, 9) are fastened, of which one carries a cross-slide rest (7) with cutting tools (8) but the other (9) carries a cross-slide rest (10) with a hob, the spindle of which is kinematically connected to the headstock (2). The slide-rest stands (6, 9) are arranged in such a way that the cutting tools (8) and the hob are located near the front end of the steady (3). The kinematic chain which connects the headstock (2) to the spindle of the hob contains a shaft (22) which is parallel to the geometric axis of the headstock (2) and is connected to it via an indexing brace and a gear (29) which has a width (b) which slightly exceeds the maximum amount of the axial displacement of the headstock (2) and interacts with an indexing gear (20) attached to the headstock (2), while it interacts with the hob spindle via two pairs of gears (30, 31 and 33, 34) with axes at right angles to one another. Of these gear pairs, the one (33, 34) which is connected to the hob spindle is arranged to be displaceable in the direction at right angles to the geometric axis of the headstock (2) during the displacement of the cross-slide rest (9) carrying the hob. <IMAGE>
