A conveying device for feeding paper layers (2A) on a conveying path (1) in an intermittent manner has three parallel endless conveying elements (6a, 6b, 6c) with stops (8a, 8b, 8c) which project into the conveying path and between which the paper layers are guided on opposite sides. Each conveying element (6a, 6b, 6c) is guided round two deflection rollers (7a', 7a";7b', 7b"; 7c', 7c"). A deflection roller (7a') of a exterior conveying element (6a) is connected to a first shaft (26a) and a deflection roller (7b') of the middle conveying element (6b) is connected to a second shaft (26b). The two shafts (26a, 26b) can jointly be driven by a step-by-step gear (52), a controllable gear (36) being arranged for a shaft (26a) between the latter and the step-by-step gear (52), by means of which this shaft (26a) can intermittently be driven, in such a way that its direction of rotation is different from that of the other shaft (26b). <IMAGE>
