The invention relates to a method for transformation of UTM co-ordinates from a first grid zone into a second adjoining grid zone. This method can be used, in particular, in determining the position of vehicles by means of navigation systems. If the vehicle reaches the edge of a grid zone and if the position is to be specified thereafter with the co-ordinates of the adjoining grid zone, the angle of convergence at the zone boundary is calculated, after determination of the zone width ZB1 from a table, and this value is used for forming an approximate value for the north co-ordinate of the second grid zone NZ2 in accordance with the relation NZZ = N1-2(E1-EZB1).sin gamma in which N1 designates the north co-ordinate of the first zone and E1 designates the east co-ordinates in the first zone. The east co-ordinate E2 in the second zone is calculated in accordance with the relation E2 = E1-2(ZB1-500 km) To obtain even greater accuracy, a further calculation and an error correction calculation can be carried out using the first calculated values. <IMAGE>
