In order to obtain a rail wheel with rubber suspension and having a progressive spring characteristic, the freely spring-mounted side faces of the rubber elements and the legs of the wheel rim or of the wheel tyre bound deformation areas for the rubber elements, which areas open in the direction of the wheel tyre or wheel rim, so that when loaded the freely spring-mounted face of the rubber elements is reduced, which is equivalent to providing harder suspension.
