The invention is based on an elongated potentiometer with a resistor support (10) to which a holder (2) is connected in a rotationally fixed manner. A wiper (9) which engages with thread pitches into a corresponding internal thread of the housing (1) can be displaced along the resistor support by rotational movement of a housing (1). In this case, the wiper (9) is guided on the resistor support (10) such that it is protected against rotation. The housing (1) is thus used as the operating element and is supported on the holder (2) of the resistor support (10) such that it can rotate.
