The evaporator contains a housing (1) which is composed of sections (2, 2a, 2b) lying one on top of the other, which are furnished with steam heating jackets (3, 3a, 3b). In the interior of the housing (1), coaxially to it, a rotor (8) is fixed to a shaft (7) in the sections (2, 2a, 2b), which rotor carries corrugated drums (9, 9a, 9b) which are designed to have openings (10) to eject the liquid onto a heat exchange surface (11, 11a, 11b) of each stage (12, 12a, 12b) of the housing (1). The sections (2, 2a, 2b) of the evaporator are arranged in stages in such a manner that a base (25, 25a) of any one section (2, 2a) of an elevated stage (12, 12a) is situated above a distribution ring (19, 19a) in the interior of the drum (9, 9a) of a lower stage (12a, 12b). The present invention can be used to carry out distillation, evaporation and thickening processes of thermally unstable substances under vacuum in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry, and in other industrial sectors, with broad application. <IMAGE>
