PURPOSE:To suppress the formation of edge seam flaws on rolled steel plates and to improve the yield of steel plates in the stage of hot rolling steel slabs and producing the steel plates by forming the inside of the opposed short sides of the slabs into recessed shapes beforehand. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of producing a steel plate by hot rolling a slab of stainless steel or the like, the mutually opposed short sides 2, 2 in the cross sections of the slab are formed to recessed shapes to form recessed surfaces 2' on the side surfaces of the slab. The metal flow by the plastic deformation in the stage of hot rolling of such slab decreases the transverse spreading of the surfaces 2' to the outward from corners 5 and suppresses the formation of edge seams 8 as the linear surface flaws in parallel with the rolling direction in both edge parts of the rolled steel plate, thereby preventing the decreases in the yield of the steel plate owing to edge cuts. |
