This invention is a method of making battery plates for example, for a lead acid electric storage battery, according to which a lead frame (11) is placed on a glass fibre tissue (14) and then battery active material paste is applied on the tissue in the space within the frame and around the edges of the frame, and then a second tissue (16) is applied over the paste and frames to secure the tissues together by adhering to the paste, both within the frame and around the margins (15) of the frame.
