Class 52(4) In a method of covering a bucket seat, a foamed plastic pad 4 is pasted on the inside surface of the seat bucket 1 of plastic, wood or other material before the legs 2 are screwed into bosses 3, a cotton wool layer 5 is provided on the outside of the bucket 1 and then a bag 6 of a plastic foil is pulled over the bucket and its opening airtightly closed by pasting the edges together. The portion of the bag overlying the pad 4 is subjected to radiant heat and the bag evacuated by means of a valve (not shown) the resulting vacuum causing the bag to be drawn against pad 4 which has previously been provided with adhesive. The legs 2 are now attached. In a modification, Fig. 5, a bag 8 of woven fabric is pulled over the bucket 1 and a plastic envelope 10 applied as before. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the bucket seat 1 is covered with the plastic bag 6 in such a manner that the edges of the opening 6<SP>1</SP> of the bag lie closely against the underside of the bucket which is then placed on a conical bucket 12 which surrounds the edges airtightly, evacuation being through an opening 13. In yet another modification, Fig. 9, for covering seats with woven fabric 8, the bucket 1 enclosed in the envelope 8 is inserted in a pan 14 of plastic foil and the pan closed by a flat ring 15 airtightly clamped on the rim flange 14 of the pan and which is covered by a plastic diaphragm 16. When the pan is evacuated through the opening 14<SP>11</SP> the diaphragm 16 is drawn against the inside surface of the bucket to force the fabric on the bucket.</p> |
