In order to transport a bicycle (3) on the roof rack (2) of passenger cars (1), a holder (6) is inserted into the saddle pillar (4) of the bicycle frame. The bicycle (3) is lifted onto the car (1) with simultaneous tilting about 180 DEG and the holder (6) is fitted onto a transverse strut (20) of the roof rack (2) where it (6) is supported by means of a holding element (7) and clamped tight. The handlebars (30) of the bicycle (3) are supported on two longitudinal struts (21) of the holder (6) which (21) are attached to the two transverse struts (20) of the roof rack (2). <IMAGE>
