<p>Glazing coating compsn. for paper comprises an aq. dispersion of a vinyl polymer contg. nitrocellulose (I) and PVA, 3-55 pts.wt. of (I) being present in 97-45 pts.wt. of the vinyl polymer which, in the form of monomer or polymer, dissolves - or is compatible with - (I). The polymer contg. (I) is obtd. by dissolving (I) in the monomer of the polymer, dispersing the resulting soln. in water to form oil droplets and polymerising the dispersed monomer. The PVA has a P. of 100-1500 and an average saponification degree of 70-95 moles % and it is incorporated in amt. of 0.2-20 pts.wt. per 100 pts. of the vinyl polymer in the aq. dispersion. Inclusion of PVA significantly improves transfer on roller and the paper and also results in good separability of the sheets of paper and gloss.</p> |
