PURPOSE:To make the select operation sure and hold easily a shift position, by providing select positioning mechanism consisting of a ball and a groove and a shift position holding mechanism between a select lever and a shaft supporting the select lever. CONSTITUTION:A variable speed operation mechanism for a horizontal type speed change gear is provided with a select device 22, and a positioning and holding mechanism 40 which consists of a ball 42, which is charged by a spring 43, and a groove 44 and has the select positioning function and the shift position holding function is provided between a select lever 34 and a shaft 33 which supports the select lever 34. The groove 44 of the mechanism 40 consists of shift grooves 44a-44c arranged in respective select positions and a select groove 44d. Shift grooves 44a-44c are made deeper than the select groove 44d. If a ball 41 is slipped off from shift grooves 44a-44c because of an incomplete select operation, the ball 41 is allowed to remain in the select groove 44c, and the lever 34 is held. Thus, the select operation is performed surely and smoothly, and the shift position is held easily. |
