PURPOSE:To prevent a short circuit from occurring at both lower and side parts as well as to prolong battery service life to a great extent, by making a glass mat smaller in size than a separator and removing the lower and side parts of the glass mat, while sticking drop holders to the said removed part. CONSTITUTION:In a separating body 1, a glass mat 1 is made to be smaller in size than a separator 2 while both lower and side parts of the glass mat 1 are removed, and each of drop holders 6 consisting of an identically sized and thickened sheet, etc., are stuck together instead. Each drop holder 6 will be good enough if its mesh is smaller than that of the glass mat 1 and also such one capable of checking sedimentation of the drops, for example, the same material as that of the separating body 1. These drop holders 6 being stuck together onto the peripheral parts (lower and side parts) of the glass mat 1 are able to disconnect a contact channel between a dropped active material separated and stuck to the lower and side parts of a negative plate 4 and a dropped active material deposited inside the glass mat 1, so that these drop holders 6 are very effective to prevent a short circuit from occuring at both lower and side parts and what is more, battery service life can be prolonged to a great extent. |
