PURPOSE:To provide a heat sensitive transfer printer capable of recycling and using an ink ribbon once used for printing by such an arrangement wherein heat and pressure are applied to the ink ribbon once used for printing and unused ink remained in areas surrounding such parts void of ink is caused to flow into such voids. CONSTITUTION:Thermal rollers 9, 10 and heaters 11, 12 are provided between a thermal head 7 and an upper and a lower ribbon winding shafts 5, 6 respectively. The thermal rollers 9, 10 rotate in the directions opposing to each other by applying pressure to an ink ribbon 8, and make the ribbon to be reusable by squeezing unused ink remained in areas surrounding such parts void of ink after transfer printing into such voids. Ribbon ink detectors 13, 14 check the degree of recycling of the ribbon and when they detects such a part of which recycling by ink squeezing is inadequate due to high printing rate, the detectors stop printing operation until such inadequately recycled part passes through the thermal head 7. |
