The mechanism is intended for fitting an assembly of tyre tread and side walls on a pre-assembled initially cylindrical tyre casing with rim beads. It comprises two resilient (and externally grooved) clamp rings which are radially expandable by inflating annular bellows elements inside these rings, such that the beads sealingly seat on the rings. On deflation of the elements after tyre assembly, the rings return to their initial position so that the tyre can be removed by sliding in axial direction (to the left) without their beads meeting an obstruction. Before applying the tread and side wall assembly, the rings are moved axially together whilst the casing is inflated so that it assumes its toroidal U-section shape. Used for fitting tread-side wall assembly to pre-assembled casing of pneumatic tyre. Direct inflation of the casing whilst moving the seated beads together produces a regularly shaped casing which is not the case if the casing is indirectly inflated whilst in contact with an expandable member inside it, as any irregularities in this member are transmitted to the casing.
|
