The aqueous sporicidal or germicidal composition contains 0.75 to 4.0% by weight of glutaraldehyde and 4 to 15% by weight of a mixture of phenol and a metal phenolate, the phenol content being from 3 to 10% by weight and the metal phenolate content from 0.5 to 5% by weight, and the composition can be used for active sterilisation over a period of at least 30 days. The composition can be used for sterilisation at room temperature.
