The invention relates to the use of a suspension of waterglass and glass powder in a concentrated waterglass solution as a protective layer against the penetration of liquid and gaseous substances and for substantial prevention of graphite deposits, and it is characterised in that the suspension, which is applied to the insides of already bricked-up chamber walls of coke ovens, contains up to 15%, calculated as ZrO2, of a zirconium-containing compound. The latter can consist of zirconium silicate; its grain size is advantageously not more than 0.06 mm. |
